City sketches with bright accents: 13 artists paint in Prospekt shopping mall
18-10-2018

Is it possible to draw a city and its inhabitants in a few minutes, do subway passengers and sellers on the market like being painted, how is Kyiv’s mood reflected in laconic sketches, and when a picture can reconcile friends?

Prospekt shopping mall invited 13 sketchers on the eve of the Artist's Day to find out how they highlight the key points, and remain free being alone with the city and with themselves. Urban sketching is a world movement of artists who make quick city sketches from nature. This is not an outdated cartoon genre and not a carefully traced portrait or landscape, but sketches that record time and place, telling a story.

Iryna Chmut
“I like to draw a city, but this is for the first time that I draw in the shopping mall. In some aspects it is easier to paint here- there are many places where you can sit, but at the same time it is more difficult because there are a lot of people here. It distracts you, you need to get used to it and to stop react to people who pay attention at you. I liked to draw Prospekt shopping mall from the outside - the facade of the building is interesting, there are bright accents in the design, the territory is sunny, bright and open.
Earlier I draw as the mood took me, but for about a year I have been drawing seriously. I attend special courses where I study digital drawing. Anyway, everything is always based on a freehand drawing. Earlier I worked in the field of mathematics and programming, but in the course of time I realized that it was not for me, I wanted something bright and unusual. I tried to draw and realized that I could find myself doing this.”
