Is it possible to draw a city and its inhabitants in a few minutes, do subway passengers and sellers on the market like being painted, how is Kyiv’s mood reflected in laconic sketches, and when a picture can reconcile friends?

Prospekt shopping mall invited 13 sketchers on the eve of the Artist's Day to find out how they highlight the key points, and remain free being alone with the city and with themselves. Urban sketching is a world movement of artists who make quick city sketches from nature. This is not an outdated cartoon genre and not a carefully traced portrait or landscape, but sketches that record time and place, telling a story.

“When I was 15, I realized that I wanted to be an artist and was steady in my purpose. I prefer to paint in ink and in watercolors, but sometimes I paint in oil. Sketching makes a person feel free, it is easier than other techniques, it frees your hand - you feel that any moment you can crumple your painting and throw it away. I prefer portrait painting. The most difficult for me is to draw architectural details, for example, old houses with lots of windows and doors.
I draw where I drink coffee, eat lunch, walk, wherever I have time and opportunity. The most convenient place to draw is subway, because you have 40 minutes and models in front of you. The passengers never had questions, people are so busy with themselves that they don’t care about me. At first, it was difficult for me to find a convenient place in Prospekt shopping mall, because there were a lot of interesting things around. I liked the openwork of wooden benches near “Multiplex” cinema, children's zone at FlyPark, food courts. I would like to come here again and to stay for 4-5 hours to draw slowly.”
