Is it possible to draw a city and its inhabitants in a few minutes, do subway passengers and sellers on the market like being painted, how is Kyiv’s mood reflected in laconic sketches, and when a picture can reconcile friends?

Prospekt shopping mall invited 13 sketchers on the eve of the Artist's Day to find out how they highlight the key points, and remain free being alone with the city and with themselves. Urban sketching is a world movement of artists who make quick city sketches from nature. This is not an outdated cartoon genre and not a carefully traced portrait or landscape, but sketches that record time and place, telling a story.

- I draw since I have been five years old. At first, it was just a hobby, which most children have. But at the age of seven I felt that I wanted to draw more and more. Later I realized that I wanted to do graphics, black and white drawings. In elementary school I already read books on drawing, basically, I got knowledge by myself. Then I studied at the artist’s studio. When it was time to choose a profession, I decided to become an architect and now I am a sixth year student of the Faculty of Architecture. I passed the creative competitions, had an exam in painting, drawing and composition. I visited the preparatory courses in these subjects, tried to study them deeper and in more details.
I became fond of sketching this spring, I read about it on Facebook, decided to learn more, and visited the meetings of sketchers. I liked the format and the atmosphere was interesting: several strangers meet and paint in different places. This is a challenge to yourself to make a series of sketches in such conditions and during a short period of time.
I do not like crowds, so I try to choose parks and squares: there are benches and bright colors there. But the most important is the interest: if I’m interested in a building or in an object, I stop and draw. Once I lingered, drawing a shop window, suddenly I felt uncomfortable - it turned out that all this time I was standing on one leg. People in the city are quite friendly, sometimes they smile and try to pose. What to do if you notice that you are being drawn? You have to decide whether it hurts you. If you are upset and do not want to be drawn, you can just leave - this is a choice of each person. If you go about your business, are waiting for someone or having a rest, you can smile, wave your hand and continue to do what you are doing - this will be the best option for the sketcher because you do not break anything in the drawing.
Once I drew a woman talking to her girlfriend. The girlfriend noticed me and said to the model. I had to come to them and to show my work, the woman was delighted, she really liked it, she wrote in the picture, “It's great! Thanks a lot!”
