Miniature exquisite dresses and affordable sets on the Christmas tree in Prospekt shopping mall. Here they realized an unusual idea: they invited not an interior designer to decorate the festive tree, but a craftswoman who sews clothes.
Natalia Tsaryk says about herself that she is a bit of a designer, a bit of a seamstress, and also a craftswoman. The woman has an education as a tailor-cutter, worked in an atelier, made interior textiles, worked with handmade.
Now he sews clothes to order — from home pajamas and suits, which are in great demand in the last couple of years, to classic and evening dresses. After all, the good old classics remain relevant.
Natalia told how she implemented an unusual idea for a Christmas tree in Prospekt shopping mall.
How did you take the idea of sewing unusual toys for the Christmas tree in Prospekt?
I was curious. I have an eight-year-old daughter, and I regularly sewed clothes for her dolls. Moreover, the child drew sketches of doll outfits, and I had to recreate them according to the idea of a young designer.
How many toys did you sew? How long did you work on the project?
I got 170 images. Sometimes the set consists of several elements: a blouse with a skirt, a jacket with trousers, a sundress with a T-shirt.
I worked on this project for more than a month, even created such miniature mannequins with different types of shapes. I made a size grid of these figures. When I created images, I tried them on mannequins to see how it would look on the figure. The process was as creative as possible.
Did you sew from fabrics that you had left over from various orders?
Fabrics for the project were provided by Prospekt shopping mall. I know that Olena Obukhivska, who actually offered me to take part in this project, personally selected and bought fabrics. Therefore, all colors, textures, and ornaments are combined with a certain concept – to demonstrate both modern trends and classics. And, of course, the cheetah print, which is relevant this new year.
Tell us about the dresses and sets that we see on the Christmas tree. How did creation take place?
I was given a task, revealing the main idea – the Christmas tree should be fashionable. To evoke special emotions and inspire self-improvement of your own image. We discussed what we want to see. It was supposed to be both casual clothes and designer images. Based on this, I began to come up with different sets. After all, I had complete freedom of design creativity.
Did you have to draw sketches for them as for real designer dresses?
Yes, I had to draw images. Somewhere after 50, the models felt a certain creative burnout. I was worried that I didn't have enough imagination. I reviewed the collections of popular designers, recalled the most famous dresses in history, famous movie images. I wrote down and sketched the most interesting things. All this inspired, again there were a lot of ideas, new images.
How difficult and painstaking this work is?
When I sewed handmade toys for my home Christmas tree — deer, bunnies. But sewing so many clothes for the Christmas tree is a completely new experience for me. Before the project started, it seemed that there was nothing to do there, I could do it quickly. However, in fact, I felt how painstaking this work is, because all the details are small. You have to make a small pattern, calculate all the dimensions, imagine what it will look like in reality.
With some complex images — coats and a few dresses that had a lot of small elements — I worked for half a day on each one.
What is it like when you see 170 of your little dresses on the Christmas tree right at the entrance to a large shopping mall?
Stormy joy. It's one thing when a person walks down the street or in the office in my dress. Another thing is when all this is on the Christmas tree, which will be viewed by so many people! This is my first experience, but I think that the guests of Prospekt will also see such a Christmas tree for the first time.
Are you planning to create something else for Prospekt shopping mall?
I was convinced that this is a special shopping mall, with a pleasant atmosphere, a brilliant selection of brands and a very democratic position. And what about fashion and trends – they talk a lot, explore, experiment. Olena Obukhivska is responsible for communications of Prospekt shopping mall and said that she has some new idea to implement something that no one has yet thought of. So I'm waiting for a new order. I am sure that it will again be a fashion original project.
