Svitlana Sheleh

Together with Weekend in Kyiv tells about Kyiv teachers, namely their life position, aspirations, working methods, and beliefs. Why? Because teachers are influencers who interact directly with the audience and do not depend on the algorithms of social networks and Zuckerberg's decisions. But if you can find out about the views (or lack thereof) of a popular blogger by googling his name, then teachers' lifestyle still needs to be studied. This mission was taken on by the authors of the educational and social project Teachers’ Self Upgrade, which motivates teachers to improve themselves and encourages society to reconsider their ideas about the profession of a teacher.

Why in a shopping mall? Because the teacher's influence goes beyond the classroom and concerns not only knowledge, but also style and image.

Our new heroine is Svitlana Sheleh, an optimistic history teacher at school No. 202, who likes to work with cloud services, knows how to create websites for educational institutions and likes to share her knowledge with others.

My style changed not under the influence of my profession, but by my age. Being a seventeen-year-old girl I went to my first job in shorts, despite the fact that I worked in the methodical office of the Department of Education. Now I adhere to the business style, because the teacher should be a model for students. However the invariable feature of my image is red lipstick, which should emphasize the beauty of the smile and not roll down after a few lessons. Be sure to outline the contour of the lips with a pencil before applying lipstick.

According to my diploma, I can work as both a history teacher and a school psychologist. History is more interesting to me as a subject, but knowledge of psychology helps in working with children. I noticed that my optimism and belief that any situation can be solved are valuable for students. They also recognize when the teacher is sincere with them and when they are not.

For me the most difficult thing to work with is to be able to solve urgent problems. Sometimes these difficulties are associated with the organization of training, when you have to teach your subject in different classrooms, where are different software and multimedia. And sometimes unusual situations arise in relationships with children, their parents or colleagues. Nevertheless, I am optimistic, because the teacher, as a universal fighter, can do anything.

Live communication can not be replaced with any online courses, because during the lesson the teacher not only transmits knowledge, but also gives a piece of themselves. For example, the memory of how Mariia Ivanivna put a D, or the advice of a favorite teacher somehow shape your experience. It will be a pity if in the future offline education will be available only to the rich, but it seems that everything is moving towards this.

In my work I build a model "teacher is a senior friend", which I adopted from my teacher of fine arts, and now also my friend Liubov Ivanivna. Like her, I can point out a mistake to a student, but I will never scold or judge. It is important for me that children feel comfortable and are not afraid to ask questions. And my approach gives results: students quarrel among themselves, who will go to the blackboard.

Children's pranks — that's what pleases most. How cute children are when they congratulate on Teacher's day, and what impudent and mischievous they are during lessons. When I cross the threshold of the school, I forget about everything that is outside it — I like this state so much, when children's laughter and life is bubbling around.

There is no difference between students of the 90s and modern children. Every child goes through the same stages from birth to adulthood: preschool years - knowledge of the world through games, primary school — obtaining basic knowledge, middle school — the beginning of the formation of critical thinking. Now same as 30 years ago, teenagers face similar problems: first love, conflicts with their parents, finding their place in the group. Only the environment in which children learn and grow up has changed. If my peers in their youth were looking for acute emotions near garages and unfinished buildings, then today's children are in danger on the internet.

Vacation house in Chernihivska region is a place where I forget about everything. There is a bad connection there, so I am sure that no one will stop me from working in the garden, picking berries in the forest or just enjoying nature. I want to spend time consciously and profitably, because the more bright moments there are, the richer life itself will be.
